Press Alt+I from anywhere. Type naturally. CoachKeeper figures out the rest.

The idea

You’re in the middle of something and a thought hits: a meeting you need to schedule, a task you don’t want to forget, a note you want to jot down. You shouldn’t have to navigate to the right tab, click the right button, and fill out a form.

Quick Capture lets you type a thought in plain language and turns it into the right thing — an event, a todo, or a note — in under five seconds.

How to use it

Press Alt+I (or Cmd+I) from anywhere in the app, or click Capture at the top of the left sidebar. A floating input appears.

Type naturally:

  • “Meeting with Alex tomorrow at 3pm” → the AI creates a calendar event
  • “Finish the report by Friday” → the AI creates a todo
  • “Ideas from today’s standup” → the AI creates a note

The flow

  1. Type — enter your thought in plain language; the input grows with what you write instead of scrolling sideways
  2. Parse — the AI classifies your input (a “thinking” cue shows while it works)
  3. Preview — you see a card with the parsed result: title, type, date/time if applicable
  4. Adjust — if the AI guessed the wrong type, switch it with the type pills (Event / Todo / Note). Edit any detail before confirming.
  5. Create — press Enter or click confirm. Done.

It files things for you

The preview does more than classify. While it works out what you wrote, it also works out where it goes and whether you already have it, and puts both in the card you’re already reading. Nothing to configure.

Suggested tag. Todos, notes and links get a Tag row, pre-filled with the app’s best guess. Runners-up sit beside it as faint chips — one click swaps them in — and the chip opens the usual tag picker for anything else. Hover the chip to see why it was chosen. Three signals feed it, strongest first:

  • the tag’s name appears in your text (“guitar” → Guitar)
  • items like this one already carry the tag
  • your text reads like the tag’s own description — the “What is this tag about?” line on its Library page. Writing that line is what teaches Quick Capture what belongs there.

Create, and the item lands under that tag. Clear the chip if it guessed wrong; nothing is applied you didn’t see.

You may already have this. When an open todo or an existing note is close enough to be the same thing, a strip says so above the fields, with the title and an Open link. Open takes you to the existing item instead of making a twin; It’s new dismisses the strip for this capture. The bar is set high on purpose — a near-certain match, not “vaguely related” — so when it speaks it’s worth reading. Switch the type pill and the check follows: Todo looks at your open todos, Note at your notes.

Paste a URL and Quick Capture skips the AI entirely — it recognizes the link instantly and offers it as a Link, a first-class item in its own right. The preview card fills itself in the background with the page’s title, site, and thumbnail, and before saving you can:

  • Edit the title — the fetched title only pre-fills while you haven’t typed your own
  • Add a comment — one line on why you saved it
  • Pick a tag — the link lands on that tag’s Library page immediately

Confirm and it’s saved. YouTube and Vimeo links become playable cards, and every link automatically joins a shelf for its website in the Library — tagged or not.

Have a pile of links? Paste several URLs at once and Quick Capture switches to a batch preview: one confirm captures them all, with one shared tag and comment. Duplicates — within the paste or against links you already saved — are skipped and reported.

The Link type pill only appears when your input is a URL — for everything else you get the usual Event / Todo / Note choices.

Type switching

The AI is good at classifying, but not perfect. If it thinks your input is an event but you meant it as a todo, click the Todo pill to switch. The content adapts — dates become due dates, titles adjust — and the preview updates.

When the AI isn’t confident about a short or ambiguous input, it says so instead of guessing silently: a small “Not sure what this one is” note appears above the fields, prompting you to pick a type or just edit the title and create it anyway.

Three type pills are always visible:

  • Event — calendar item with date and time
  • Todo — task added to your backlog
  • Note — rich text document

When to use it

  • During a meeting — quickly capture action items without switching tabs
  • Random thoughts — get an idea out of your head and into the system in seconds
  • Scheduling on the fly — “Dentist appointment next Tuesday at 10am”. Done.
  • From any tab — it works the same whether you’re in Notes, Calendar, or Chat

Tips

  • Be natural. You don’t need special syntax. Write like you’d tell a colleague: “Remind me to call Sarah about the contract.”
  • Include dates and times when scheduling. The AI parses “tomorrow at 3pm”, “next Tuesday”, “Friday afternoon” naturally.
  • Press Escape to close without creating anything.
  • Alt+I is muscle memory. Once you get used to it, it becomes your fastest way to get things into CoachKeeper.
